About

I’m Kevin A. Dean, a British English teacher, writer and independent educator based in Bratislava.

I have worked in English-language education since 2008, teaching across Europe and Asia and increasingly focusing on IELTS, OET, healthcare communication and professional English.

My work has gradually moved from teaching English primarily as a body of knowledge towards helping people perform with it when the stakes are real: in examinations, professional conversations and healthcare settings. That has led to a particular interest in rehearsal, feedback, transfer and the question of how we know that learning has actually taken place.

My academic background is in history, politics, international relations and language, with postgraduate study at Nottingham and Bath. That wider background continues to shape the way I think about communication, institutions, assessment, technology and education.

My current interests include language assessment, interactional competence, deliberate practice, educational design, healthcare communication and the responsible use of AI in learning.

Alongside teaching, I write and develop practical learning resources through The English Native.
